Oscar Wilde:

The name is Wilde!  Oscar…Wilde! Enchante…

Whereas I would love to talk to you all about the Lesbian and Gay History of the world ( yawn) I find it much more pertinent to touch up on a subject that has baffled scholars for decades with his glamour, pizzazz…comic wit…someone who’s known as the “wonder of the world”…alright maybe not that but certainly the “lord of language”.

Ladies and Gentlemen it gives me great pleasure to bring to the stage at this time…….me.

I don’t care if my health runs bare

I don’t care if I go broke

For youth is fleeting

My soul depleting more everyday you know!

Living in London, my friend I was a superstar, oh, yeah

Didn’t have a dime

It was a crime

Just how I’d climb so far

I exemplified pure fashion in my time

OH YEAH

Walkin’ around thinkin’ everything just fine!

Then fate said, “Hey, Oscar take a ride with me downtown!

It’s really very silly how we’ll turn this place around

Then I said “Fate, Why, I’d love to!

Shall I get my hat and cane?

My soul will be lost but there's so much more to be gained

On the Wilde Side!

On the Wilde Side!

I wrote poems to satisfy

My disdain for my plays

The only thing I ever justified

Was the Picture of Dorian Gray!

Leaving dear London, my friend

I would conquer the other side

It wasn’t hard, I came so fast

Oh, God my wicked pride!

It wasn’t long ‘til I made the front page

When my shag’s dad held keys to my new cage!

Then fate said, “Hey, Oscar take a ride with me downtown!

It’s really very silly how we’ll turn this place around

Then I said “Fate, Why, I’d love to!

Shall I get my hat and cane?

My soul will be lost but theirs so much more to be gained

On the Wilde Side

On the Wilde Side

RAP

Yo, talent like mind-it can’t be bought

Yeah, God save the Queen and all her lot

I write my stories based on reality

It don’t make it up really---it’s just what I see

The upper classes actin’ like they own the place

Ah, ah girl, ‘cause I get in your face

Reading rich snobs brings me such bliss

Let me tell you how I do it, it goes something like this

I write a play just for you

And make you the lead girl

I’ll make you look the fool

Make the audience hurl

Revenge is best in public, old school style

Don’t underestimate the bitchy side of Oscar Wilde

That’s how it is on the wilde side

Ah, Ah, Ah

It’s like that on the wilde side

Ah, Ah, Ah…

DANCE BREAK!

You won’t believe your eyes!

Bring on the dancing girls! Oh, no—not me!

You see genius is born, not paid.

Did you not know there was a tap section in this?

Oh, you fat bastard!

I need a drink darling!

This is the part where you applaud with everything you have in you!

Then fate said, “Hey, Oscar take a ride with me downtown!

It’s really very silly how we’ll turn this place around

Then I said “Fate, Why, I’d love to!

Shall I get my hat and cane?

My soul will be lost but theirs so much more to be gained!

On the Wilde Side!

On the Wilde Side!

 On the Wilde Side!

It’s all about the importance of being….on the wilde side!

Well, what did you think I was going to say?

Bugger!
